A wildfire is being tackled near Glencorse Reservoir following its outbreak earlier today (Thursday 11 June).
A call was received by the Fire and Rescue Service’s Operation Control Centre shortly before midday, triggering the dispatch of appliances from Penicuik and Sighthill to an area of scrubland in the Pentland Hills.
It is understood a farmer undertook controlled burning yesterday, during high temperatures of 22 degrees. This was extinguished yesterday but reignited this morning due to the winds.
The wind has since fanned the fire, which now covers approximately 500m near Glencorse Reservoir. Appliances from Dalkeith, Liberton and West Lothian have been sent to the scene. Two main jets, a light pump and beaters are being utilised to bring the fire under control.
The fire service ask that hill walkers avoid the area as it may take “some time” to extinguish the fire.
