Screwfix Coming To Penicuik

Job listings hint that B&Q offspring Screwfix is set to open in Penicuik.

Six online advertisements have revealed that the Uk’s largest supplier of trade tools will shortly open a trade counter in the town.

The store, which will likely be in Penicuik’s Eastfield Industrial Estate, will rival the established Beatsons DIY store, however with no other ‘Screwfix’ or ‘Beatsons’ stores in Midlothian, or south Edinburgh, it is believed that the town’s deteriorating industrial area will be given a needed footfall boost. ‘Screwfix’ believe this also, as stated in their job description for a Branch Manager:

You’ll be the driver behind a successful and profitable Trade Counter. As a role model, you’ll show your team how to meet and exceed targets.

Six jobs are currently being marketed with a closing date of 11 July.

‘Screwfix’ operates 283 stores through the United Kingdom. Throughout these stores they employ 3,893 people. Their parent company ‘Kingfisher PLC’ also operates B&Q, along with a number of other household improvement brands, and is the largest DIY brand in the Uk, France and Poland. Overall they have yearly sales in excess of £10.6 billion.

Eastfield Industrial Estate has been undergoing redevelopment after Edinburgh Crystal closed 2006. In the past five years Strathesk Primary School has been built but more recently Midlothian Council has constructed a multimillion pound care home in the area which will replace Pentland House later this year. The council also plan to open a controversial new community recycling facility.
