The Hunter & The Lass 2014
The Hunter – Craig Cherrie
I was born in Edinburgh on the 25th of February 1971. My mum and dad, Rita and David brought me and my younger sister Gail up in Loanhead where I attended St Margaret’s Primary school then on to St David’s High School in Dalkeith. One of my fondest memories of my younger years is taking part in the Loanhead gala day.
I have worked in travel since leaving school and am currently working for Barrhead Travel in Cameron Toll.
Having moved from Loanhead to live in Edinburgh, it was 2007 that found me moving to where I now class as my home town, Penicuik.
I am a keen horse rider and have taken part in various shows/dressage competitions with my horse Murphy. I also love going to the gym and keeping fit and recently took up running. I now have four half marathons under my belt.
I have followed and supported Penicuik Hunter and Lass for over 20 years, taking part in every Tuesday night and Saturday ride since 2002. To be chosen as this year’s Hunter fills me with pride and I will be honoured to represent Penicuik both at home and around our neighbouring border towns. I have a feeling this summer will be one that I will never forget and I can’t wait for it to begin.

The Lass – Lisa Henderson
I was born in Edinburgh on 4th May 1988 and have lived in Penicuik all my life with my mum Shirley and my big brother Mark.
I attended Mauricewood primary then Beeslack High School before leaving to pursue a career with animals. I studied at Edinburgh’s Telford College and Glasgow University Veterinary School and qualified as a veterinary nurse in December 2009. I trained and was employed in a busy mixed practice, ICR Butt & Partners in Loanhead until November 2013 when I started my dream job working solely with horses at Edinburgh Dick Vet University Hospital, where I am due to start studying towards my qualification to become a specialist equine veterinary nurse. In my free time I have a busy social life; I enjoy keeping fit, especially running, spending time with my ponies and walking the legs off my 3 dogs. I am a member of Glencorse pipe band and have played the bagpipes since 2000 and have enjoyed many fun days and trips abroad with the band over the years.
Hunter and Lass has always been a huge part of my life, having done my first Penicuik ride out at 10 years old and obtaining the youngest rider award two years running, then best turned out horse and rider the following year. Since my first ever ride out my dream has always been to be Penicuik’s Hunters lass one day and I am thrilled and honoured that 2014 will be my year. Also to represent the town with such a close friend by my side will make it extra special.
