The Penicuik YMCA-YWCA will be going back to the future on Saturday 10 October in a reunion night filled with nostalgia.
The 70’s themed night aims to bring everyone together who has been involved with the Penicuik Y over its forty plus years of operation.
Those who have utilised the services the local childcare charity are invited to attend, bringing along their memories and stories of days gone by. One attendee and guest of honour will be May Campbell, the first General Secretary of the Y.
Penicuik YMCA is also asking the public to look out any pictures or other memorabilia that they may have of their times at the Y. As part of a wider national project, the YMCA is interested in capturing peoples’ memories of the Y on camera as part of a project kindly funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund .
The Penicuik YMCA-YWCA takes place at the YMCA premises on Queensway, Penicuik on 10th October from 7.30pm. Tickets are available in advance or on the door for £10 each. Memories can be posted on-line at the YMCA website (http://www.penicuikymca-ywca.org.uk/) , Twitter or Facebook pages, or can be emailed direct to info@penicuik-y.co.uk. A live band, DJ and buffet will also attend. Posters and pictures of memories will be on show too.
Keith McIntosh, current Chairman and one of the founding members said
We are looking for anyone with a connection to Penicuik Y to send us their memories and to come along to what will be both a fun filled and nostalgic evening. The Y has gone from strength to strength in recent years and we wanted to showcase our heritage. We hope to feed some of these memories into a wider national initiative to capture the heritage of the YMCA movement in Scotland.
