Penicuik’s community groups are to host several cleanups in the coming weeks after the town’s littering problem reached crisis point.
As Spring arrives, the desire to enjoy the great outdoors increases. However this trip through the green spaces in the district is marred with irresponsibly discarded waste and environmental vandalism.
To combat this growing epidemic, community members and local organisations have united to help pry the town’s public areas from the grasp of the litterers. Over the next few weeks, various litter picks have been planned for some of Penicuik’s worst hit exterior spaces. It starts on Saturday 21 March with a cleanup in the Cuikenburn area of the town. Equipment will be provided. Full details of the events below:
- Saturday 21 March – 9:30am – Cuikenburn – Meet at YMCA car park
- Saturday 11 April – 9:30am – Beeslack Woods – Meet at Tesco Penicuik
- Saturday 18 April – 9:30am – Lowrie’s Den – Meet in Penicuik House’s car park
- Saturday 25 April – 9:30am – Mauricewood Road – TBC
