Police Scotland are asking the public to help with their investigation after an armed man attempted to rob a Penicuik business.
Newsboyz on Pentland Terrace in the Cuiken area of the town was subject to an attempted armed robbery on Monday 7 April.
In broad daylight at 3.20PM, a white male entered and approached the 44 year old shopkeeper, where the assailant presented a knife and demanded that the shopkeeper handed over the contents of the till. The shopkeeper refused and the masked male ran out empty handed.
Luckily no one was injured, however the Police are now urging members of the public to come forward with any information which may lead to catching the suspect.
The suspect is described as white, 5ft 8ins tall with a thin build. He was wearing a black hat and scarf, which covered his face, a black jacket and spoke with a local accent.
However the Police are also on the lookout for a second male who they believe was standing watch out the front of the store whilst his partner attempted to steel the contents of the till. This second suspect is described as white, 5ft 6ins tall with a medium build. Like his partner, he was also wearing a black hat and scarf, which covered his face.
Detective Constable Andy Hope said:
Fortunately, the shop assistant was not injured during this incident. However, he was left very distressed as a result and we are eager to hear from anyone who can help us in tracing those responsible.
Anyone who was in the Pentland Terrace area on Monday afternoon and remembers seeing anything suspicious is asked to contact police immediately.
In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to this investigation is also asked to get in touch.
