Burglary Spate hits Penicuik

Police Scotland are appealing for information following a series of thefts on Sunday 10 April.

The incidents, which occurred yesterday evening, affected three households in Penicuik and saw the theft of a Volkswagen car and Honda motorcycle amongst other items. Two areas were concentrated on, Kirkhill and the vicinity of Sacred Heart.

Between the hours of 7pm and midnight, a Honda motorcycle was stolen from outside a property on Eskvale Crescent.

Later, at a round 8pm, a house on Harlaw Grove was entered. The suspect, or suspects, made off with various items, including a set of car keys, resulting in the high value theft of a blue Volkswagen Polo (reg. SL10 XZO). It is believed that the Polo is a sport version.

Nearby to this previous property, a garage on Greenhill Park was broken into between 6:30pm and 9:30pm. From here various tools, metal detectors and a bicycle were stolen.

Sergeant Michele Lindsay, of Penicuik Police Station, issued a statement saying that the Police believe the incidents may be connected:

Given the nature of the offences and the proximity of where they occurred, we’re keeping an open mind to the possibility that they’re linked.

As such I would be very keen to hear from anyone who noticed any suspicious behaviour near Eskdale Crescent, Harlaw Grove or Greenhill Park on Sunday 10th April.

Similarly anyone who has information relevant to our enquiries or who has been offered goods that they believe to be stolen, contact police as soon as possible.

If you have witnessed these events or have any further information, you can contact the Police on the non-emergency number 101 or anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The public are advised to remain vigilant, keep doors and windows locked and all outbuildings secure.
