Get ready to go primal this July, as the Reebok Spartan Race comes to Penicuik.
On Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 July, participants will go head to head on the world’s leading assault course at Spittal Farm, near Nine Mile Burn, aiming to be crowned winner.
Appealing to people of all ages and abilities, the farm will host a 5km Sprint on the Saturday and a 13km Super on the Sunday. The Sprint event includes 15 obstacles and is a great introduction for anyone new to obstacle course racing. The Super, with its longer distance and 20 obstacles, provides the perfect challenge for those wanting to take their fitness to the next level.
Be reassured though, you won’t be doing it alone, because in addition to those participating alongside you, spectators are invited to show their support, making the Spartan Race unique as the only obstacle course with an audience.
Commenting on the events coming to Spittal Farm, Richard Pringle, Spartan Brand Ambassador, said:
We’re incredibly excited to be bringing the race to Scotland in this beautiful setting and we’re encouraging everyone in Scotland to get involved and Spartan Up! Spartan isn’t just a race, it’s a lifestyle. We don’t just see our racers on the start line, we work with them from their sign up all the way through to race day in order to encourage a real lifestyle change.
Mr Pringle continued, pledging their support to racers:
We share free training tips and workouts and provide nutritional advice in the weeks leading up to race day, ensuring our racers are prepared to be the best they can be. The mental attitude we encourage ensures people can tackle any of our obstacles on race day and also leaves them inspired to overcome challenges in life, off the course. So whether you’re completely new to this sort of event, or you already feel fit but want a new physical challenge, we’re on hand to help and show you what it’s like to be a Spartan.
The race is experiencing rapid growth with over ten million people worldwide completing the course annually. Taking place in 25 countries across the globe and hosting 150 races, the Reebok Spartan Race was first held in the UK in 2010 and has since welcomed thousands of contestants in the country.
For those wanting to be the best, the race will provide chip timings allowing you to rank not just nationally but internationally. This culminates in the Reebok Spartan World Championship later in the year.
Spectators are welcome to watch in four preselected areas. The farm is accessed off the A702 and parking will be available, although at a price. More information can be found here.
At the time of writing, the race was 58% filled. Those wishing to participate must register in advance using the booking system available through the link above.
