The bodies of two elderly siblings have been discovered in a house on Royal Court, prompting an investigation by the Police.

Police Scotland have launched an investigation after being called to a house on Royal Court on Monday evening. Upon arrival, the law enforcement officers discovered the bodies of man and woman, both of pensionable age.

The elderly pair are now believed to be siblings, Williamina Thomson (80) and John Guthrie (78). Whilst their deaths are unexplained, Police Scotland are not treating them as suspicious.

John Guthrie moved from his home in Shetland to care for his housebound sister. It is believed she was suffering from Arthritis. The pair were regarded as being private, however questions were raised over their wellbeing after mail started to build up in the letterbox. With this in mind, Police believe the elderly siblings could have been lying dead for some time. Post-mortems are being carried out to ascertain the causes of death.

A Police Scotland spokesman said:

Police in Midlothian are investigating after the bodies of an elderly man and woman were found within an address in Royal Court, Penicuik on Monday 10th November.

Enquiries into their deaths are ongoing and anyone with information that can assist officers with their investigation is asked to contact police immediately.

Neighbours said that the Police arrived around 9pm on Monday and that a forensics team had been present throughout the following day. Little information was given to them with officers citing there had been a “serious incident”
