The annual ‘Tiso’ Carnethy 5 race has taken place.
The event which was held on Saturday 16 February was won by Finlay Wild in the time of 49 minutes and 46 seconds closely followed by Robert Jebb one minute later. It was Finlay’s first time at running the six mile course through the Pentlands. Running for Lochaber AC, Finlay, came from the same club as an annual regular, Jimmy Jardine, who has ran all forty-three hill races. However the race was close between Finlay and Robert and was decided upon the descent of Carnethy with Finlay managing to pull a one minute lead against the Bingley Harriers runner.
In the womens race, fourteen time winner, Angela Mudge won not only out of all the female participants but also out of the female over forties. She came in overall nineteenth place. Angela was also successful in being the only female runner finishing in under an hour with the next two coming seconds after the sixty minute mark.
Elsewhere Kenny Richmond retained his title for the male over forties with a comfortable sixth place in 52 minutes and 44 seconds and a record was broken by Stewart Whitlie by coming eleventh with a time of 54 minutes 45 seconds. Carnethy came first overall out of the teams with Shettleston Harriers coming second.
Finally Bill Gauld, the oldest racer just shy of his eightieth, finished in 95 minutes.
All in all 535 participated, 116 of them runners, with 530 managing to finish.
