The body of a 47 year old woman was recovered from a river near Beeslack Community High School on Thursday.

Investigations are ongoing as to the circumstances of the death of a 47 year old woman, who had been reported missing earlier in the day.
Police were called to woodland behind Beeslack Community High School in Penicuik at 4:20pm yesterday (Thursday 10 July) after a member of the public reported seeing a body in a river. The area was closed off to the public whilst the Police started their investigation.
A Police Scotland spokesman said:
Police in Midlothian are investigating after the body of a 47-year-old woman was recovered from a river in Penicuik.

Officers responded to a wooded area near the Beeslack High School at around 4.20pm on Thursday 10th July after being alerted by a member of the public.

The woman had been reported missing earlier that day and local efforts had been underway to trace her.

Her death is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.

In the meantime, police would ask anyone who believes they saw a woman within the woodland between Wednesday morning and Thursday afternoon to come forward.

You can get in touch with the Police by calling the non-emergency number 101 or you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
